Hypoxia can be caused by many reasons. It is caused due to low oxygen pressure, so it can be a result of high altitude hypoxia, long time diving near the sea bed of deep sea etc.
Low atmospheric oxygen pressure or deep sea heavy water pressure is not suitable for our body, so the victims of hypoxia need to be under a controlled oxygen pressure according to the situation.
HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) http://www.oxyhealth.com/hyperbaric_therapy.html with different evolved hyperbaric chambers are designed to serve these purposes. HBOT is now suggested also to treat autism http://www.to-treat-autism.com/ under high atmospheric pressure of oxygen.
