Ref: SMAC177 Weather Or Not : A Decision Making Process. You guys were talking about weather yet no mention of contacting Flight Service when you were discussing what to do when your gee whiz wx gear craps out. Wow! Is it any wonder that by next summer there’ll only be 2 Flight Service stations left open in the lower 48? Raleigh Flight Service is closing in early July, the last of the original stations and Prescott is scheduled to close in the summer of 2019. After the last 2 are gone I can hear pilots complaining that they wish there was a service where you can call on the radio or phone to get wx updates or help with a flight plan you can’t file for some reason or another. With all the pilots who thank those guys at Flight Service for helping them out, it seems they do nothing to make sure Flight Service will still be around in the future. I guess they figure it’ll always be there. I can see withing 5 years or maybe sooner there will be no more Flight Service available n the lower 48.

Thanks for the feedback. Stay tuned to a future episode where we discuss tactical vs strategic planning. Additionally we will discuss the future of flight planning and Flight Service Stations.

Enjoyed the episode and the stories. Russ certainly seems to have bad luck w/ weather and SNF! If he had left a day early I wouldn’t have gotten to meet him Saturday morning. I really enjoyed all the episodes from SNF as I was was only there for a day and a half. I didn’t get to visit all the vendors and your interviews helped highlight new products as well as getting some back story and info. Thanks for the huge effort and time!
BTW, there seemed to be some audio issues with this episode. I heard a bit of pre-echo probably from the guys on Skype. I’ve not heard it before.
