Pilot Ejects, Aircraft Lands Itself

In what happens to be one of the most bizarre events known to aviators, a pilot in an unrecoverable flat spin ejects from his aircraft only to find out later his empty airplane safely landed itself in a farmers field.

This story is of the “Cornfield Bomber,” a Convair F-106 Delta Dart which mysteriously recovered itself from a spin after the pilot ejected. Have you ever heard such a thing? Turn out, it’s true!

And this pilot not only flew the Cornfield Bomber again later in his career but he also tells the amazing and odd story that surround this unique aircraft codename. It’s well worth the couple of minute distraction from your day to watch.

So what do you think? If this happened to you, do you think you could fly this airframe again? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Enjoy.
