Representing Sun N Fun radio, Carl Valeri and Eric Crump spent their days at the US Sport Aviation Expo exploring the newest products, listening to lectures , and interviewing many of the exhibitors. This is a long episode because we decided to include all the interviews from the show. We feel each interview has something special to offer to you the listener. As mentioned before, the first part of the show is spent sharing and discussing listener mail from Ron of RightSeatFlying.com about an emergency landing he had to make in San Jose as a fairly new pilot, on a major holiday no less. Ron shares his story – Broken Throttle Cable In-Flight? Here’s One Outcome – where we learn about the HUGE clue to what, we believe is, a major red flag to help you recognize a possible engine control cable failure.

SMAC036 – Formation Flying, $100 Hamburgers in Hawaii, Obstacle Departure Procedures

Todays show discussions involved some information and chatter about formation flying and each co-host’s experience with this flying pleasure. We also shared a story of nearly one of the coolest $100 hamburger flights known to man and then wrapped it up with a segment on obstacle departure procedures explained, as requested by one of our listeners. Do to innumerable scheduling issues thanks to Hurricane Sandy, Rick was not able to join us for this episode but does send his best regards.

Women Fly It Forward 2013  – Women of Aviation week is March 4 – 10, 2013 and Victoria is looking for volunteers worldwide to host events. The goal is to eventually host 1 event in each of the 50 states. Fun fact: If there was 1 event in each state, where 100 women were introduced to flying, and if only 2% of those women chose to fly, we’d see a 10% annual increase in female pilots. So come one GUYS and GALS – contact Victoria with your interest to host an even in your local area!

US Sport Aviation Expo – Carl will be in attendance reporting for SMAC. Sun N Fun Radio and Flight Time Radio, sponsored by LiveATC, will be broadcasting form the show. Episode #17 – Flying For Fun Vs Flying Hire

Today’s show was spurred by a listener email that had to do with the pros and cons of flying for fun versus flying for work. There’s a lot of opinions out there on the Internet and aviation forums, some from disgruntled airline pilots, other from passionate aviators looking to fly heavy iron.

Since Carl and Len are both airline pilots and Rick and Victoria fly for pleasure, what not a better group of people to discuss these issues with.

Our Stuck Mic AvCast co-host Carl Valeri of ExpertAviator.com, will be attending the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL on January 19th and 20th. The event, which runs January 19th through January 22nd, focuses on Light Sport Aircraft and the Sport Pilot Certificate. He’s super nice and fun to talk planes with so make sure to catch him if you can.

The next announcement today is in conjunction with Women of Aviation Week, the second annual Women Fly It Forward event hosted by our very own Victoria Neuville of Aviation Insurance Resources. The event will be held at KFDK Frederick Municipal Airport, Frederick, MD on March 10th, 2012 and promotes aviation for women. Last year, Women Fly It Forward shared the gift of flight by providing free airplane rides to 185 women of all ages. The only requirement is that it must be your first time in a small plane. There’s also a chance to win a flight award for money and discounts towards flight training. Will you be there?
